Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mx. - "El Comerciante", the CD by VENGANZA NORTEÑA puts them in an elite group of talented norteño musicians. Songwriter / vocalist, Israel Salas exhibits an original and superb accordion style. The accordion to a norteño band is like the guitar to a rock band.
The lyrics to each song are diverse. In the melodramatic: "Un hermoso sueño", written by Jesus Cano, the disobedient son regrets not seeing his mother die. He runs to the cemetery but the guard doesn't let him in. In deep remorse, he lays to sleep at the entrance where he dreams that his mother forgives him, but when he kisses her hands, someone wakes him.
At the other extreme, "Teresa traviesa" is a charanga norteña, by Israel Salas. Teresa is very kinky and that's exactly what he likes. In a norteño CD corridos are indispensable and this record is filled with fabulous stories. The title cut, "El comerciante" is about a savvy businessman who knows when to rise in arms or simply bribe his opponents. |
